Overview

Algeria is a North African country situated in the Maghreb region. it is actually the 10th-largest country in the world and the largest in Africa. The country is bordered in the east by Tunisia and by Libya, in the west by Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania and Mali, in the southeast by Niger, and in the north by the Mediterranean Sea.

Our health care system

Algeria has a well-run health care system which is free of charge for poor people. About 90 percent of the population had access to medical care, and only in remote rural areas people have difficulties reaching health care services.

The hospitals

The clerkship will take place in university hospitals. The student should choose a field that he already studied it in his country. The exchange will work 4 hours a day, and 5 days a week. Vaccination against tuberculosis and hepatitis B is required. Communication with doctors and patients will be in Arabic or in French. The medical studies are in French. However, some clerkship can be in English.

Our medical education

In order to a generalist, we study 6 years of university education followed by a year of internship. This includes 3 years of preclinical years and 4 years of clinical years. There are 10 faculties of medicine in Algeria. Almost each city has its own faculty.

Cultural differences

1.UNESCO World Heritage Sites

There are several UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Algeria including:

Al Qal'a of Beni Hammad: the first capital of the Hammadid empire.

Tipasa: a Phoenician and later Roman town.

Djémila and Timgad: both Roman ruins.

M'Zab Valley: a limestone valley containing a large urbanized oasis

Casbah of Algiers: is an important citadel.

The Tassili n'Ajjer: a mountain range (Natural heritage).

2. Cuisine

Algerian cuisine is rich and diverse. The country was considered as the "granary of Rome". It offers a component of dishes and varied dishes, depending on the region and according to the seasons. This cuisine uses cereals as the main products, since always it is produced with abundance in the country.

3. Music

Algerian music is a perfect reflection of the cultural diversity that characterizes the country, music directories are distinguished by a profusion of several styles.


Andalusian so-called Algerian classical music is a musical style that was reported in Algeria by Andalusian refugees who fled the inquisition of the Christian Kings from the 11th century, it is developed in the cities of the North of the Algeria.This music is characterized by a large technical research and focuses mainly on twelve long Noubate "series", its main instruments are the mandolin, violin, lute, guitar, zither, flute and piano.

Chaâbi music is a typically Algerian musical genre that was derived from the Andalusian music during the 1920s. The style is characterized by specific rhythms and of Qacidate (Popular poems) in Arabic dialect that are long poems from the Algerian heritage.

Folk music is primarily distinguished by several styles. Bedouin music is characterized by the poetic songs that interpret the pastoralists in the area of the Highlands. It is based on of long kacida (poems) single rhyme and the monotonous sound of the flute. Tergui music is sung in Tuareg languages generally ( South Algeria language). Finally, the staïfi music is born in Sétif and remains a unique style of its kind.

Buses and Taxi

There are 71,656 kilometers of paved roads including 640 kilometers of expressways in Algeria.

You can move around Algiers using bus or taxis, taxis may be better because it's fast, not expensive with the local money and you can ask the driver to get you to a specific destination, almost all of taxi drivers speak French with may be little English so that can make the communication easier.

Price of the ticket: Bus: 0.2 euros Taxi: from 0.2 euros to 4 euros (It depends on the destination).

Plane:

The main international airport, Houari Boumedienne Airport, is about 20 km (12 mi) from Algiers. Constantine, Annaba, Telemcen, and Oran have smaller modern airports that can accommodate jet aircraft.

The city of Algiers has Mediterranean climate. , it has the average of 3 650 hours of shining sun per year! Therefore, there is 4 seasons, the winter warm and rainy (from 0° to 18°), the summer hot and humid (from 28° to 40°), the spring and the autumn are warm (from 20° to 25°).


Social life

Algeria is a well-known country for its hospitability. In Algiers, there is cinema, shopping centers, restaurants, beaches and some gardens, where families and friends are having good times. We want you to have great moments here in Algiers. We’ll offer assistance and company for your fun times!!
