The magnificent city that lies on the Nile banks and considered to be the geographical center of Egypt…it is not just an ordinary city but it is the “Bride of the valley” and “The gate of upper Egypt”. The Location
The governorate of Assiut lies on the bank of the great Nile. It is about 130 km long and its valley is about 10 – 20 km wide. Its total area is about 25926 km2 and the occupied area is about 1558 km2. It is limited by El Minyia governorate north, Souhag governorate south, The Red Sea governorate east and The New Valley one western south. It is considered to be about 375km far from Cairo.

The Climate
Assiut lies in the north of Upper Egypt and it is said to have a desert climate.
June, July and August are the hottest months in the year while January is the coldest month.
The rain is very rare as it has a dry climate.
By Train:
From Cairo airport take a taxi to Ramsis Train Station (the main train station) & pay the driver from 60 to 100 Egyptian pounds and not more, ok? Or you can take the new white taxi and pay as much as the counter indicates (ask the driver to switch on the counter when you enter the taxi). At the Ramsis Station book a ticket to Assiut, or you can ask your contact person to book it online for you before you come.
The distance from Cairo to Assiut is about 350km , so it takes about from 5 to 5.5 hours to arrive.
The ticket prices are:
1st class ticket = 61 Egyptian pounds (about 8 euros)
2nd class ticket = 35 Egyptian pounds (about 4.5 euros)
Both 1st and 2nd class tickets are in air-conditioned trains.
N.B:If you have any difficulty in booking the tickets, go directly to the TOURISM POLICE OFFICE! They are very helpful and will finish everything for you. They will also help you book in a nearby hotel if you are planning to spend the night in Cairo.
By Plane:
You can also take a plane from Cairo’s airport to Assiut’s airport. The trip by plane cost more (about 300 L.E) but it takes much less time about one hour. Flights from Cairo to Assiut are available only on Saturday, Wednesday & Thursday.
After you book the train ticket you MUST call us to inform us of your time arrival to Assiut so that one of us would wait for you at Assiut train station.

Assiut University Faculty of Medicine (AUFOM) was established in 1960. Being the oldest medical school in Upper Egypt, AUFOM serves as the Upper Egypt largest academic health complex that combines medical education, biomedical research, patient care and community outreach services.
Both AUFOM and the hospital complex are located in the University Campus, and both are recognized in many areas of medical research and clinical care. They play very important role in improving the health status of Egyptian citizens in Upper Egypt.

Assiut University Hospital is located in the university campus. It is considered one of the biggest university hospitals in Egypt and it is the core medical center in Upper Egypt. It serves about twenty millions of population.
The total number of beds is 1900. They are all free service except 160 beds private and for insurance.
The number of ICU beds is 84.
The number of patients visiting the outpatient clinics daily is about 3000 and about 1000 come to the emergency departments.
Also the hospital comprises 36 theaters in which 190 operations are done daily, 80 major and 110 minor.
The number of medical staff working in this big hospital is 1312, and the number of paramedical staff is 4880.
The residence will be in Assiut university students' hostels.
Each room contains 2 beds, a private bathroom, television set and a refrigerator.
