Welcome Note

Overview

Our health care system

The health-care system is mostly public with some hospitals being in the private sector. The public hospitals in Bahrain are free and they're offered to all Bahraini citizens regardless of their employment status. Healthcare expenditure in Bahrain is about 4.5% of the GDP. There are 2 kinds of hospitals, there are the health centers as well as the medical complexes. The health centers are where you'll find all your General practitioners, immunization centers, follow-up clinics, chronic disease clinics, and in certain health centers they offer the maternity ward. The distribution of these health-centers are based on the "health areas" that are divided by the Ministry of health, which indicate the coverage network that the health-center can cover. There are a total of 21 Health-centers in all of Bahrain, with a total manpower of 2,101 individuals. When the limit of GP care is reached, patients with extraordinary diseases are referred to Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) where specialists can take over and provide specialized care. The total manpower of SMC is 4,398. There is another specialist hospital, the Bahrain Defence Force hospital (BDP) however that is mainly reserved for military personnel.

It's generally sunny and warm in Bahrain, it becomes really hot during the summer and may reach as high as 50 in August (you can fry an egg on the side of the road in that weather). However with the advent of air-conditioning thankfully no one has to suffer with the heat. But apart from the summer, all year round it's sunny and warm.
