Ciudad Mendoza

Ciudad Mendoza is located in the zone center of the State, in spurs of the Sierra Madre Oriental in "La región de Las Altas Montañas" (The great mountains. It has a surface of 37.84 km2. In 1810 this place is "named Necoxtla" (In Nahuatl means Place of the ears) In 1896 is named "La villa de Santa Rosa" (St Rosa's Ville). Finally in 1930 is named Camerino Z. Mendoza (in honor of the great fighter of the Mexican Revolution).

In this town is located our Faculty of Medicine. The weather in Camerino Z. Mendoza is cold in all the year and has rains in summer and autumn, the soil is fertile. This is a pretty and smart city and you can find a relaxing stay with a lot of ecological places.

The Rio Blanco (White river) is one of the largest rivers in Veracruz. In Cd. Mendoza you can go ridding next to the Rio Blanco. The trip is over 50 min or if you prefer you can go running or jogging. In Mendoza, people loves baseball. Nearby to Cd. Mendoza is located the town of Orizaba. The name Orizaba comes from a Hispanized pronunciation of the Nahuatl name Ahuilizapan [āwil-lis-ā-pan], which means (more or less) "place of playing waters". This town is an important transition point along what has been for centuries the main trade route between Mexico City and Veracruz on the Gulf of Mexico. The climate is generally pleasant, though often cloudy and rainy. On october it's foggy like in Manchester, for this reazon the tourists of the UK say "Orizaba is the Manchester of Veracruz" the soil of the Orizaba valley is extraordinarily fertile, there are a big agriculture activity. Orizaba has an important industrial life. There is, for example, the Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma company (a brewery), which was established in 1896 in Orizaba. Orizaba is a brewer town. The most popular local beers are "Sol" (lager) and "Superior" (dark beer). You can have a trip on to the Brewery, from Monday to Friday and watch how the beer is made.

In the late years of Porfirio Díaz' Government, two important workers' strikes occurred, those of Cananea and Río Blanco (near to orizaba), the latter taking place in Orizaba and being an important prelude to the Mexican Revolution. Today Orizaba is one of the most important cities in this region, and there are a lot of place for visiting. One of the tourist attraction in Orizaba is the "Paseo del Rio Orizaba" this is a great park in the bank of the Rio Orizaba (This river cross the city from the north to the south), in this park there are a small Zoo. This place is very nice to go for a ride or just walking.

The old City Hall El Palacio de Hierro (The Iron Palace) in the centre of the city was designed by Eiffel. Built with 600 tons of Belgian steel, its parts were shipped from Austria during El Porfiriato (the government of Porfirio Díaz), to be assembled in Orizaba. There are a lot of buildings with a great architecture for example, the new city hall, the Mier and Pesado institution, many beautifull churchs like the Catedral de san Miguel (in honour of St Miguel, the Saint of this city) , a lot of parks, for example la Alameda (Central Park) is the biggest Park in orizaba, people likes go there and be in contact with the nature.

Although Orizaba is a small city we can found all the things that in a big city are. Shopping centres, cafes, restaurants, hotels, etc. In orizaba, people loves soccer, the most important soccer Team in Orizaba is named the "Albinegros" (the black and whites). Orizaba is the national soccer birthplace.

If you look at north-east of these towns you'll find the "Pico de Orizaba"(Citlaltépetl), a volcano that, at 5636 m. (18,490 ft.) is the highest mountain in Mexico and third highest in North America.

Córdoba was founded in 1618 by the Spanish. It is located 20 km from Orizaba, it was founded to protect the royal interests from the Yanga's attacks, Córdoba is a great historical place in México, In August 1821, the Mexican revolutionary Agustín de Iturbide and the Spanish viceroy Juan de O'Donojú signed the Treaty of Córdoba; In this way concludes the Mexico Independence war that begings in 1810 by Miguel Hidalgo also with this Treaty was ratified the Plan de Iguala and confirmed Mexico's independence.

Cordoba is the biggest city in the high mountains Region. You can find in Córdoba all that you want. The principal agricultural cultures are: sugar cane, coffee, avocado, orange, lemon, rice and some non-traditional cultures as “anturios, heliconias and palma camedor”.The teasty Coffee in Veracruz is made in cordoba and in the town of Huatusco (next to Cordoba). There are a lot of malls, theaters, Restaurants, Hotels, Etc.

Also in this city you can find an archaeological zone named Toxpan (in Nahuatl means the rabbits place) there are 21 prehispanic buildings and a small ball game.

Cordoba has the architecture of a Spanish city with French influence, because it is one of the ancient cities in México, and it has been remodelated many times. For example a central park in the middle of the city, like a square; one side there are the Cathedral named La inmaculada Concepción, in front of the cathedral and crossing the park is the city hall. In the left of the park there are los Portales (Portal de Zevallos, Portal La gloria) The Portal de Zevallos was the residance of the Zevallos countess, today is a famous restaurant in Cordoba, and in this place were signed the "Tratados de Córdoba" to ending the Independence war. The portal la gloria is next to Zevallos one, and there are The city library, the city museum and the culture house. Finally in the rigth of the central square there are some departments stores.

The favorite sport in Cordoba is the Basquetball, the favorite team is "Los halcones" the Universidad Veracruzana baseball Team, and this is one of the best Basquetball teams.
