MSAKE Exchange Conditions
The following is a draft of the MSAKE exchange conditions to be met by incoming foreign students.
Level of studies: Only clinical students (should have rotated in the desired department before)
Type of Clerkship: Clinical clerkships only
Languages English - We do NOT require language certificates. But in any case of doubt, applying students will be INTERVIEWED BY TELEPHONE to test the language. -If the student’s knowledge of language is deemed not enough during the clerkship, the clerkship MAY BE CANCELLED
Duration of Clerkship: 4 weeks: ONLY CALENDAR MONTHS
Working Conditions: - Clerkships start on the 1ST DAY OF THE MONTH and end on the LAST DAY OF THE MONTH Monday to Thursday – 8am to 5pm. Punctuality is a requirement Week-end and night shifts may be required by the department 80% of attendance is compulsory in order to get the IFMSA certificate. Incoming students are expected to fill in their logbook in order to get a certificate. If you come without one, our LEOs will be able to provide you one.

Period Nairobi University February to September Moi University: April and August
Application documents & deadline: (can be received digitally through the database) 2 passport size photos Letter of motivation to Head of desired department Proof of valid Health & Travel Insurance Enrollment letter from the Dean of the faculty

Card of Acceptance deadline (weeks in advance): 8
Card of Confirmation deadline (weeks in advance): 4
Insurance: - Health insurance: mandatory for the chosen month of clerkship -Travel Insurance: mandatory
Pocket Money: NO SALARY from the hospital.
Board & Lodging: The following are options for accommodation for Incoming students: 1. Private hostels 2. Guest Houses 3. Home stay 4. Student hostels Boarding The meals offered to the incoming students shall include: 1. Breakfast 2. Lunch
Social Program: Organized by the Head of Social Program Office, contact person & exchange office members. A clear program will be handed with the welcoming package about the social program during the period of stay. These activities are subject to the Period/Season of the year, Accessibility of the activity and the Availability if the LEOs and Contact Persons Possible Activities include: • Welcome dinner • View sites of the Great Rift Valley • Camping at Naiberry River Camp, an affordable outing to a place that once hosted billionaire Bill Gates • Game Drive Safari • Trip to the Coast • Waterfalls • Nights out • Salsa night • Paintballing, Bowling, Ice skating • Farewell dinner -the student will receive further details during/before his/her clerkship -the student may have to cater for some of the aspects of the Social Programme -the student will have to organize most of his/her free time him/herself Substitutions: Substitutes should send their information and documents at least 4 weeks before starting clerkship and should be applying for the same department
Cancellations: - No money will be refunded to the student
Visas: - Visitors or Tourist visa, Valid Passport, Evidence of immunization against yellow fever is required for entry into the country. All information regarding visa should be directed at the Kenyan Embassy/Consulate abroad. Invitation letter is available on request. Invitation request letter or email should be sent at least 6 weeks prior to the beginning of the clerkship NB:
Special remarks: Important: - The student is expected to maintain formal dress code during clerkship and carry the required instruments i.e. Scrubs, Lab coats, Stethoscope, Patella hammer, Pen Torch. THESE ARE MANDATORY AND SHALL NOT BE PROVIDED BY THE HOSPITAL -The student will be held responsible for any material damage he/she causes. -Students not showing up at the arranged date or send late CCs cause a lot of trouble and will lose accommodation and/or position at the hospital after 5 days without any announcement -MSAKE reserves the right to cancel any exchange period and housing period if it receives any complaints of misconduct or unethical problems both in hospital and at the lodging. - The student is expected to take the clerkship seriously and conduct accordingly -compulsory prevention: anti-malaria -CC: Please, mention precisely your time and place of arrival. CC must be sent 4 weeks prior to the beginning of your clerkship. If not, we will consider your clerkship cancelled. -The exchange student must contact his CPs by e-mail at least 2 weeks before his arrival, if not his clerkship will be cancelled. -CERTIFICATE: You must attend at least 80% of the clerkship AND fill in the Evaluation Form online BEFORE you leave to get you certificate.
