So, Welcome to my short help article.
Wiki engine turned up to be more complicated than we first thought so. Still, once you understand the underlying principal. it becomes fun and easy to edit and create new pages.
As you can see, every NMO has it's own page which can be accessed through the side bar. The NMO page already contains two parts - first, a table in which every country can shortly add relevant information and second - the agreed ISP template. Pay attention to the "Cities offered for exchange" part at the end - in this part each LEO can edit his/hers local committe information.
If you want an extended help file, please refer to the Wikimedia one here.
Following is the information of how to edit your ISP:
Contents |
As a regular user (before login in), you are not entiteld to edit or change almost anything in our Wiki website. this is to prevent random users from messing with our site. Even as a logged user, you will not be able to edit pages without granted premission from the website Sysop (lets say - SCOPE director). As mentiond, this is to prevent students or random users from editing our pages.
So, to login - you need to press on the LOGIN link on the upper-right corner of the screen. Naturally, the first time you login, you'll have to create a new account. it is important that you insert a valid e-mail adress.
Finish loging in and move on to the next step only after being approved by the Sysop (SCOPE-D). This might take a few days. Make sure you contact the SCOPE-D and inform him of your new Wiki account.
Unfortunately, under the current Wiki engine version, every one has permission to edit everything (and that means your page too). You would probably like to have your page in your watch list. Haveing your page in your watchlist, means that every change, addition, etc. to that page will be noted and sent to your e-mail. If you object the change made in your page, then as an editor you'll have the option of restoring back your page to its previous shape.
This is the only way preventing others from destroying your work (intentionally or unintentionally ;) ).
So, you would think Wikipedia is so easy to edit...Think again! It takes a while to get the hang of it. Basically - it's all based on text and codes. Unlike amateur's website designing programs, Wiki is far more sufisticated and isn't based on user friendlly (word like) editors. AND WE ARE NO AMATEURS!!! are we???
To begin edit, go to the side bar and choose your NMO. You will now get a standard page with the ISP template (in addition - you'll also find a table summerizing the country's info).
To edit the page (meaning - to change or add text) - press the "edit" tab at the top of the page. Once you press edit, a text box containing the Wiki code will open. You now can edit or add text into the page. Make sure you do not delete or change any of the Wiki code (especially when editing the table content). Just replace the standerdized text with your own text or add new text under the different ISP headers.
I can not say anything more than - Use your common sense! remember - you can always undo your changes.
Another way of editing is pressing the "Edit" link situated next to every header.
So, when adding or editing text you can use different text codes to set format and style. Here are some examples:
== TEXT == - Text written between the 2 pairs of equal signs will be formatted as level 2 headline === Text === - Text written between the 2 triplets of equal signs will be formatted as level 3 headline ''Text'' - Turning text into italic style. '''Text''' - Turning text into bold style.
Now some important instructions when editng a page -
you can use the small icons at the top of the text box. in these icons you'll find the most important tools to design your page, such as styling (bold, italic), adding internal or external link, addiing a header, adding a picture of file etc.
after pressing the icon (italic or bold), the wiki will add the needed code and will enable you to change the defult text to your desired one.
Well, you can find an extended help page on formatting here.
Once you press the adding file icon, you will receive the following result -
[[Image:egypt-flag.gif[left]]]
now, you should follow few steps -
1. change the the file name from Example.jpg to the EXACT file or image you are about to upload. 2. you can add additional information regarding the picture's format (such as placing it on the right, left or center). You have to separate the additional information by the Pipe charecter. for example - [[Media:Example.jpg|left]] - this will put the picture on the left side of the screen. for additional infomation about image formatting - see the Wikimedia help file. 3. once you save the page, you will have the option to press the link you added in the edit box and to be redirected to an uplaod screen. At the upload screen - upload the image or file you wish to embed in your page. Remember - the file name must be similar to the one you entered at the edit box. 4. One more important thing - you should upload images that are already desigated to the webpage (i.e small sizes images, small scale picturs). You can use a standard program, such as Microsoft office picture manager to compress large size images. 5. one last thing about adding pictures - at the table opening your NMO page - you'll find that the third rubric contains an option to uplaod a picture of the location of your country. It is recommended that you take this picture from the Wikipedia page of your country. Within a country's article in Wikipedia you'll find a similar table with a similar map of location. Rip that map and upload it to your IFMSA wiki page. Of course, you can also take a location picture from any other source or just ignore that rubric.
on the bottom part of your NMO page, you'll find the header "Cities offered for exchange". Underneeth this header you'll find a link - City 1 and additional text - city 2 and city 3.
You can change the links by editing the NMO page of course your nmo city. it would be wise if you first copy the content of the standerdized text within the City 1 page (press City 1 link and then press Source View tab to get the wiki code). Once you copied the source, paste it to the new page created carrying the name of your city.
You cannot edit the page named city 1.
Well, I hope this will do for now. If you have any questions you can always contact me. Please - dont give up. Give me a call or send me a mail if you encounter troubles. If worst comes to worse - we can work on that togather during the MM/AM.
Yours,
Uri
