About the city

It is the Capital of the Province of Buenos Aires, the first Argentine state. It is located on the pampas, a distance of 56 kilometers south-east of the city of Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina, and 9.87 meters above the sea level.

With a population estimated by the last National Census (2001) for 599,000 inhabitants and a land area of 940.38 square kilometers, reflecting housing density 585.2 people per square kilometer, making it the most populous province.
