About Mainz
Mainz is the capital of the German federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is located on the river Rhine across from Wiesbaden, in the western part of the Frankfurt Rhine-Main Region which is one of the most productive regions of Europe with an above-average development rate. Home to 4.8 million residents, it is the third-largest economic region of Germany. Its impressing history , vitality, chumminess chiefly contributed by about 35,000 students (14 percent of them from abroad ) and their young spirit give Mainz its unique charm and atmosphere, especially in our everyday life and nightlife.
Accommodation
Most of our incoming students stay in a stundent dormitory or in apartments of one of the students which place their apartment at the disposal. You may share it with other students, dependig to the extent, but you’ll have a room for your own. Please contact us in order to give us a preference.
Hospitals
The most students do their internship at the University hospital "Universitätsmedizin Mainz". The most departements and subspecialties are available and located there. Depending to the numer of applicants betimes the internship as to be done at "Katholisches Klinikum Mainz St. Vincenz und Elisabeth Hospital" or "HSK- Dr.-Horst-Schmidt-Kliniken" in Wiesbaden. Own white coat and a stethoscope is needed in all hospitals. Most people are able to speak English. To bring in German skills its wake would mean a big advantage, especially concerning contact with patients. Over and above students without basic German skills are not taken for an internship at the department of internal medicine.
