Welcome to Rostock!

Rostock is a city in the north-east of Germany and one of the most beautiful Hanseatic cities close to the Baltic Sea. The river Warnow runs through Rostock and the shores of Mecklenburg/Western Pomerania with its famous Baltic Sea resort Warnemünde and long white beaches attract thousands of visitors every year. Rostock offers a wonderful historic district with architectural gems and important examples of medieval and renaissance architecture. Gothic brick churches like St. Mary’s Church with an elaborate interior and its famous astronomic clock from 1472, the Gothic Town Hall and typical patrician town houses recall the important era of the Hanseatic League in the early Middle Ages. Rostock has about 200,000 inhabitants and an old university, founded in 1419, which is the oldest in Nothern Europe (~ 14,000 students today) – incl. Faculty of Medicine!

We invite you to combine your professional or research exchange with a pleasant stay in our Hanseatic and historical town of Rostock. We offer you a selected social programme during your stay.
