Working conditions
Not all french doctors speak English fluently, you’ll soon realize that French people in general are quite bad at English.
It's difficult to say what your daily program will be like ; it's very much up to you ! If you ask questions actively, you'll find more answers, and you'll get a more enriching experience. Incoming students are often surprised by the fact that if you want to do or see something, you always have to ask. That’s the way it works here, you’ll never find a doctor saying ”come, you have to see this or do that”, you’ll have to be the one asking. You might be able to shadow a doctor, but it’s more likely that you’ll follow the french students called ”externes”.
The clinic expects you to arrive punctually.
The patients speak English only occasionally, so the conversation can be limited unless you speak French fluently.
You are expected to work from 8 or 9 until 12 or 14. If you ask nicely enough, a day or two off is possible for longer trips around the country.
